Because One Day Could Be Today!

I love this song…

Could one day be today?

“And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” – Colossians 2:15

I guess it depends what we believe.  But if we believe that Jesus, crucified and resurrected, has defeated the powers that stand against us then we are free to be the church Jesus has called us to be.  And then one day becomes today, the future breaking into the present.

One day…Today!

  1. Rex,

Your cryptic comment here leaves room for more explanation. Do you really believe that if the church is being the church things like war and hatred will cease? I’m not sure that is possible because of the sin in the world. Do I desire this, do I strive for it, yes! But even Jesus said, “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” (Matthew 10:34). Does that change because of the resurrection? Rather, it seems that we are in the midst of the already/not yet eschatology that began with the Cross/Resurrection event and continues until Jesus returns. So, we pray for the one day, we do what we can for the one day now, but will it happen until THE DAY, the day of the Lord. I don’t know, but I don’t think so.

    • I believe we live between the already but not yet eschatological realm of God’s redemption. That is, the church should be a portrait of what redemption will be. So for the church, one day becomes today because it lives in the power of Jesus’ resurrection.
