As we move into the spring season (hallelujah!!!), I’m making plans for a couple of important events. First off, I’ll be attending the Pepperdine Bible Lectures during the first week of May (5/3-5/6). I know it is a real hard life to spend nearly a week in Malibu, California but someone must do it. In all honesty, I am looking forward to hearing some great speakers from the Churches of Christ, attending some great classes, meeting up with friends, and making new friends.
Secondly, I am also planning to attend the Streaming Conference: Biblical Conversations for the Missional Frontier on May 16-18 at Rochester College which will feature Miroslav Volf, Henry B. Wright Professor of Theology at Yale University Divinity School, and Scot McKnight, Karl A. Olsson Professor of Religious Studies at North Park University. I’m really glad to have a seminar that’s trying to broach the world of theology and practical ministry in ways relevant to the missional church.
Lastly, I am just thrilled with the direction we at the Randolph Church of Christ are trying to journey towards. Our mission is to be a church that is Living, Loving, and Leading like Jesus. This is our way of expressing the desire to not only be faithful disciples of Jesus ourselves but to also help others to become faithful disciples too. We believe this demands the imitation of Christ in all of our living.
We understand that is a missional calling cannot be done on our own ingenuity and wisdom. What does it look like to live by the power of the Holy Spirit as we participate in the mission of God in the authority of Jesus’ name? Those are questions we asking. In the meantime, as the minister I see members who are taking the step of faith to serve and be witnesses which is very encouraging.
The future is exciting…participating in the mission of God as a disciple of Jesus Christ is exciting!
