A Lament for Our Violent Ways!

     Why, God?
Why must we continue to suffer like this?
What must innocent people be afflicted with the grievances of other?
Why do we believe that violence is a solution to our problems?
Why does evil seems to break all bounds, where bloodshed follows bloodshed? (cf. Hos 4.2)
We so often gather in your name, under your rule…yet you seem absent.
Have we turned our hearts from you?
Have you turned your heart from us?
We are in misery; we agonize at the horror of this day yet our stubborn independence only seems to move us only to repay evil with evil.
Surely God you are our help!
Save us, save us from what has become of us.
Teach us your ways that we may know love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  (Gal 5.22-23)
Then we will know how the wolf sleeps with the lamb and the lion with the calf, how swords become plowshares.  (cf. Isa 11.6; Mic 4.3)
For you alone God are our hope; without you we are hopeless.
